Portable Applications

Portable Applications are among the most talked about things today. If you have a USB Flash Drive, also known as a Pen Drive / Thumb Drive / USB Stick, or if you have a Portable Hard Disk, then you should be interested in Portable Applications which are software applications you can take with you wherever you go. Portable applications are basically software designed to be carried on a small USB drive. These applications are designed to not put anything on the computer's hard disk, and use the USB drive for everything right from loading the program itself to storing temporary files and in case of internet browsers and mail client software, even storing the cookies and mail on the USB device. Today there are two major variants of Portable applications. One is very aptly named Portable Apps, while the other has a very catchy name U3. While U3 requires specific U3 enabled (certified) USB drives to work, Portable Apps will work on almost any USB device including USB hard disks. Portable Apps is open source software, and so are most of the applications available for it. With a huge amount of software available to carry along with you wherever you go, portable applications are well worth getting 'carried away'.
