Reliance Wimax Service in Pune

After having used Reliance Wimax Broadband Service in Pune for well over a year now, it is time for another review of the service. During the past 16 months, we notice that the Base Stations (bs) usually go down once every week. The most common problem is that the DHCP server fails to respond, and your working lease which is set to 2 hours times out. You end up without a working connection for upwards of 2 hours a week at least. Apparently, Reliance uses Cisco equipment at the Base Stations for the routing and DHCP.


Internet Telephony Service that listens to your calls

After email services that 'read' your emails and display relevant advertisements, aka Google Mail, a new service is here that 'listens' to your internet phone calls and displays relevant advertisements. Call it a 'breach of privacy' or call it 'subsidized by ad revenues'; either way, looks like services like these are here to stay.


US Military files found unprotected Online

According to this article on Yahoo, sensitive US military files were found openly available online during a survey conducted by Associated Press.
Detailed schematics of a military detainee holding facility in southern Iraq, Geographical surveys and aerial photographs of two military airfields outside Baghdad, and Plans for a new fuel farm at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan were among the sensitive materials found generally available online.


Firefox 3 coming soon

Mozilla is working on the latest version of the Firefox Browser, codenamed Gran Paradiso. The preview edition of Firefox 3 is currently in Alpha stage, and is expected to reach the the first Beta version release in the end of July.
Firefox 3 will feature the bookmarks portion of Places, the feature that at one time was slated to appear in Firefox 2.0, but was later pulled out. The Places feature that is slated to make searching through Browser History and Bookmarks easy, depends on the Open Source SQLite database engine.


Reliance WiMax in Pune, India

Reliance Communications is currently in the test mode for their newest offering on Internet Services; WiMAX. Being offered as part of a pilot project, we were amongst the first few to opt for this technology. The service is being offered through several Direct Sales Associates (DSAs).
One of the major among them is Balasai Net Pvt. Ltd. in Pune, which performs the entire range of services including installation and customer support, through whom we got our connection.


International Conference on Web Engineering and Applications

The College of Enginnering & Technology, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa in India is hosting the Second International Conference on Web Engineering and Applications. The main event is to be held during 14 - 16 December 2007, and is aimed "at bringing together the international community of researchers and developers from academia and industry in the field of Web Engineering research, practice and education, to share their experiences and to discuss recent and innovative results that may help them". Those wishing to submit papers for the conference are encouraged to submit their paper extracts latest by July 1, 2007, and the papers by July 7, 2007. View the complete set of important dates.


Getting Back at Spammers

Here's some good news for those who wish to get rid of SPAM. According to an article on InternetNews, a company called Unspam Technologies, along with help from ISPs in the US is taking the steps to track down and take legal action against spammers. The company has already filed its first lawsuit in the Eastern District of Virginia, seeking damages that could potentially reach $1 billion, but Unspam Technologies will be willing to settle for putting the spammers out of business.

According to the MX Logic Threat Center almost 80% of the emails on the internet is SPAM. Some of it undoubtedly will find its way to your mailbox. Your ISP / Email provider may put in several measures to reduce this spam, but you may still find yourself fighting spam!

Note: Most of the items below are meant for those who have POP / IMAP access to their mailboxes. Wherever applicable, I have mentioned the equivalent if you're using a web based email service such as Hotmail / Yahoo / GMail / AOL / any other paid / free web based mail service.

 


Fighting Spam

Almost each and every one of us at some point or the other has received unwanted email advertising, offering or selling some product service or website. We receive emails of all sorts of colors, fonts, images, decorations and intentions. Most of us simply delete such emails. Some of us unfortunately get trapped in the lure of such devious emails.
Let us discuss some issues regarding SPAM and ways to avoid falling in traps, blocking spam, and getting back at spammers.


ColdFusion

Adobe ColdFusion is essentially an application server, along with a software development framework used for building dynamic web sites. ColdFusion is a competing product to Microsoft ASP.NET or Java Enterprise Edition, and may also hence be considered a Framework.

ColdFusion MX 7

ColdFusion, unlike Microsoft ASP.NET or Java, is a Rapid Application Development Framework, meaning that applications can be created in a much simpler manner using ColdFusion and effectively work can be done much faster.
